Nashua Trek Physical Fitness

Physical preparation will be important to ensuring a successful Trek experience. This trek requires physical stamina which requires physical preparation, obeying the Word of Wisdom, eating wholesome foods, not overeating, eating a balanced diet, and regular exercise. It is important for you to start now. Physical preparation cannot be completed in a short period of time. 

This page lists some suggested activities to get you moving and physically ready to pull a handcart. 
Whatever you choose, it is important that you start now and stay active!

Trek Preparation
  • 3 Months before Trek (April) :
  • Walk for 20 minutes or more at least 4-5 times per week
  • 2 Months before Trek (May):
  • Continue walking 20 minutes or more 4-5 times per week
  • 2-3 of those times walk at least 2-3 miles 
  • 1 Month before Trek (June):
  • Continue as in April and May
  • During one of your walks each week, walk 4 miles or more

Other activities to consider
  • Go hiking in the woods
  • Run
  • Go biking (triple the walking distances)
  • Swim laps in a lake or pool
  • Do yoga, Pilates or Zumba
  • Play basketball
  • Do situps and pushups 
  • Participate in an organized sports team

  • Walk with a friend
  • Attend a workout class
  • Turn off the TV and move
  • Dyard cleanup
  • Take your bike instead of driving
  • Park your car far from the door
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Climb a mountain
  • Invite a friend to play tennis or racquetball
  • Make healthy eating choices
  • Get plenty of rest
